Update 2022: Due to the success of our post about the best tools to find keywords, from our seo agency in Barcelona we have decided to update it for this 2022. Keep an eye out, as some tools have changed in the last few months and we have also added new ones to the list that you might not have known about. Don't miss it!
At La Teva Web we are specialists in creating the most innovative customised web designs, but we also know that no matter how attractive a website is, it will not achieve results or visibility if it does not have a well thought out and elaborated Online Marketing strategy behind it.
Within this Online Marketing strategy, one of the essential sections nowadays is SEO positioning in Google. Search engine optimisation encompasses the whole set of actions that we can use in our favour to obtain the best positions in search results.
Let's take an example: At La Teva Web we are a multidisciplinary agency in Barcelona capable of creating the most amazing web designs, but none of this would be of any use if users were not able to find us on Google. Do the test, search Google for "web design" and see who comes up first. Unless Google has woken up on the wrong foot this morning, we will be the ones who will be first because of that search, and no one else can say that.
Now that we have seen the strong relevance of SEO, let's talk about one of its most relevant points: Choosing the right keywords to use on our website.
A keyword study, also called Keyword Research, is a fundamental pillar in any SEO project to lay the foundations on which our positioning will be based later on. If we get the right keywords right from the start, we will have a good part of the work done and our project will go from strength to strength.
We are going to provide you with a list of the 7 best SEO tools for 2023 so you can start researching in depth which are the most profitable keywords for your project and build a winning SEO strategy.
Let's cut to the chase!
Some of these keyword research tools are free, some are paid, but most offer limited free versions or trial periods. Either way, we guarantee that with any of them you will be able to build your own keyword research quickly and easily.
Update 2023: Semrush has recently added a new section called "Keyword Manager", this allows us to compile a list of our keywords through any report of the tool, that is, we will always have the possibility to add new keywords for our project even if we are not in the Keyword Magic Tool section.
Semrush, the definitive tool for keyword research, cannot be missing from a list like this. Although this tool was born to help us monitor keywords, now it also has a multitude of sections to keep track of the status of our project (content analysis, audits, backlinks, competition monitoring, estimated traffic, etc.).
But the one Semrush feature that we highly recommend to create a complete keyword study is the Keyword Magic Tool, every SEO's best friend.
Keyword Magic Tool offers a database with millions of keywords that are constantly updated. Thanks to its advanced filters, we can instantly find the keywords of a specific niche in semantically related groups.
For each of the keywords, Semrush gives us the monthly search volume, the trend of that query throughout the year, its positioning difficulty and the total results of that search, among others. In addition, it also allows us to create a list of our favourite keywords and download them in an excel file to work locally.
Without a doubt, for all this and more, SEMrush is an essential tool that cannot be missing in the inventory of any SEO expert.
This tool became very popular in the SEO world in a very short time, its success lies in the fact that it is a very visual and fun tool which makes the work of searching for new keywords much more enjoyable.
It is a freemium keyword tool, that is, with its free version you can select the language you want and perform as many tests as you want, but the filter by region is only available in its paid version.
When you search for a specific keyword, you will get question charts, comparisons, prepositions and alphabetical lists.
One of the great advantages of this tool over others is that it offers keywords and topics related to the keyword entered, so it is ideal for getting ideas to help you create a content plan completely tailored to the keyword you want to promote.
In early 2022 it was bought by Neil Patel, creator of the Ubbersugest tool that we will see below.
This keyword research tool is not so well known but it is also very useful. Its trial version allows us to perform 3 keyword searches per day. It is especially useful for finding long tail keywords (those keywords with more than 3-4 words). These long tail keywords are ideal for smaller projects or those with fewer resources as they are generally less competitive and therefore easier to rank for.
The only downside is that the tool is in English, but we can search in Spanish without any problem. Try it!
The main feature of this tool is that it is a Chrome extension. With it, when you perform any search on Google you will instantly get the monthly volume of that search and its CPC (Cost per Click in the case of Google Ads advertising).
The simplicity of use of this SEO extension makes it ideal for simpler keyword research. It is the fastest way to check if a particular keyword has high volume and low competition.
But what we like most about this extension is that it offers us other keywords related to the term entered, so we often find variations of keywords that perhaps we had not thought of until now.
It is a good alternative to Keywords Everywhere which we recommended in previous years but which became fully paid.
It may not be an SEO tool as such, but Google Trends is a fantastic tool to visualise very easily how search trends change over time and whether one keyword or another is really worth betting on.
This is especially useful for more seasonal searches. A simple example would be a search for "buy umbrella". If you enter such a search, you will see that this search is obviously more likely to be performed during the rainy months of the year.
Obtaining the relative popularity of a search gives us an advantage when deciding how and above all when, so that you can distribute your content and keywords in a way that fits in with the seasonality and search trends of users.
You can now enhance the functionality of Google Trends with Glimpse, an extension that improves search trend data. Compatible with Chrome, Glimpse shows you keyword search volume, an improved search volume graph along with growth or decline numbers, related topics, keyword variations, trend change alert service and more.
Like other freemium tools, the free tool is limited in functionality and in the number of enhanced Google Trends searches you can perform each month: a total of 10.
Created by the renowned Neil Patel, Ubbersugest is a free keyword tool with paid features. Although it is a bit more basic than the ones mentioned above, it is still very useful for discovering new keyword suggestions.
From more competitive and transactional keywords, which you can use for your service/product pages, to long-tail keywords with more informational targets that you can use to your advantage for your new blog topics.
This tool also provides you with all the data you need for a basic keyword study: Volume (although it is not as precise as other paid SEO Tools), positioning difficulty, CPC, and even a "Trends" meter that measures the search timing of each keyword.
Please note that over the years, Ubersuggest has limited the features of the free version and today, for example, you need to purchase the PRO version if you want to perform more than 3 searches per day or if you want to see tables of information such as the profile of users searching for the term you are analysing.
We should also not forget the tool that Google provides to Webmasters, Google Search Console. This completely free Google analysis tool has improved a lot in recent months.
Previously, Google Search Console performance reports were updated every month. Now, we can obtain very recent data (daily) on the searches by which surfers enter our website, which allows us to keep an almost real-time control of our positioning in Google.
If we access the "Performance" tab in Google Search Console and choose a period of time, we will find a list of each query along with the clicks and impressions it has received in the SERPS, as well as the average CTR (Percentage of clicks per impression) and its average position in the results. We can also find out which of our pages are ranking for these searches.
What we like about this tool is that it provides us with vital information about our positioning and gives us the opportunity to act accordingly. For example:
In addition to giving us a complete analysis of our current positioning. GSC also helps us to know potential keywords which we are not working on but which would be interesting to evaluate for our SEO strategy.
So much for our list of tools for creating in-depth keyword research! But new tools may soon appear that offer new and profitable opportunities, in which case, we promise you that we will keep updating this list to always offer you the best.
Our last and best advice we can give you is not to stick to just one tool. A good SEO specialist will know how to use several of them judiciously and select the best that each one has to offer.
