E-commerce in Spain continued dodging the crisis in 2012 and the first quarter of this year increased by 19% over the same quarter last year to reach 2.452 billion euros.

The keys of the increase was due to higher customer confidence when shopping online, together with the increased penetration of mobile devices, in fact customers can now say that they carry online store 24 hours a day in their pockets.

Tour operators with 12.7%, followed by air transport with 12% are the leading sectors in value sales. Both sectors together reach April 1 Euro out of 4 Euro bought online.

Direct marketing with a 7.2% of sales, followed by transportation of passengers with 5.4%. The betting sector with 4.5% and recreation and culture with 4.1% are the other major sectors of Internet shopping, followed distantly by fashion dress with 3.1%.

Of all the online business, Spanish companies generated 1.369 million, representing a total of 56% of the total amount. Still, the Spanish continue to buy more outside than inside the country and online trade balance accumulated a deficit of 739 million Euros.
