The largest number of companies in Catalonia are located in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, being a good field of study for the use that companies make of their online presence. The statistics, according to a study by the city of Barcelona, showed that most companies do not take advantage of Internet opportunities. Only 58% of companies in Barcelona and its metropolitan area has a site, many of which are out of date and lacking a good solid web design or web programming, not to mention their lack of focus to business opportunities.
More worrying are the prospects for the competitiveness of Barcelona as only 19% of businesses without website are planning to create its website in the coming year.
Google also provided statistics, and are even more devastating because it is not even 1 in 4 companies with fewer than 10 workers who have websites. In addition, companies that have websites often do not consider relevant or budget.
Definitely, the jump of competitiveness that is demanded to Barcelona, will be very difficult to achieve as most companies will continue wasting so many economic opportunities offered by the Internet.
