In an official statement, Google has announced that from March 2024, websites created through the free Google My Business service will stop working. This measure will affect the domains that conclude: business.site
According to the information shared in the official Google blog, visitors who try to access these websites will be automatically redirected to their commercial profile until June 10, 2024. Subsequently, users will encounter a "page not found" message.
This change should not surprise the community, since in 2021 Google announced the transition from Google My Business to Google Business Profile, and the elimination of free websites created through this tool is one more step in this planned transition.
Those companies that wish to maintain their online presence will have to take action before the deadline. Google’s recommendation is to create a new website using alternative tools and then update the business profile with the new website address. In addition, it suggests various tool options to create the new website such as Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy, Shopify and Wordpress.
An important aspect to highlight is that companies that use Google Ads together with a website created in Google My Business will have to update their ads before March 1, 2024, ensuring they redirect users to the new platform. Otherwise, ads may not work correctly after the deadline set by Google.
