Google is against those website that feature intrusive pop-up adverts. These websites will get lower rankings in Google search results and it will start on 10th January. With this action, Google wants to avoid those sites using images or videos that cover the content and provide a poorer experience to users than those other pages that do not use pop-us and make content immediately accessible. This is particularly important when talking about mobile devices where screens are much smaller.
Which websites will be punished by the use of these techniques? Those that use pop-ups or ads that cover part of the main content and those that force users to get through an intermediary webpage in order to get to the information they are looking for.
There are but some exceptions such as cookies pop-ups or paywalls.
